Hey world! Without revealing my age, I will say that I have frequented many a party and show all over the world.  And I've come to expect certain things of certain places and certain people. But there are some instances when you just don't know what to expect at all.  So when mi receive the invite to Black Widow International's Island Invasion show, featuring St. Island Invasion_126 Lucian songstress Nicole David, I was somewhat on the fence.  But it was a Saturday after all, and mi was after something a likkle different than the same. So mi put on mi short short dress, slipped on the stilettos, grabbed my Fuji and head over to the place.

Massive, was I in for a treat.

The night began a bit slowly, as usual, with people straggling in one by one and two by two.  But by 2 in the morning, the venue was half full and everyone was instructed to go downstairs, as the show was about to begin. From the moment her voice issued from the speakers, Nicole made the entire venue her domain.

If you don't know, Nicole David is the "Diva of Lucian Soca".  She is not only renown for her infectious lyrics and communicable beats; but she also stands as an icon for many young St. Lucian girls.  Her hits include “Jabbal” (creole word for outside woman), "Bounce”, “Mate'” (creole for bend over), “Dreaming”, “Shoofly”, “Put your Waist Into It”, and “What a Feeling" amongst others. Alright.  So back to the show.

Massive, it get hot in the club quickly.  The "Diva" went through her repertoire of songs as if Island Invasion was the last fete on earth.  She whined, rolled and belted out hit after hit, drawing nearly everyone in attendance into her show.  Several gentleman attempted to join the songstress on stage at different points in the performance. And one was treated to a "special whine" of sorts [check the gallery].

As for the ladies in attendance, nearly every one of them was whining along right with her.  And when Nicole dared to inquire who was a Jabbal, several a hand shot up proudly.   Proudly, massive!

Island Invasion_116 All in all, it was definitely a good night. Just ask Billy Banton of Enforcer Music.  Di man actually picked up a microphone and started singing back-up on one of the tracks.  Mi almost dropped dead on the spot with laughter.

If you want to check out what you missed, make your way to the pics in the gallery.  And Black Widow, big up yuhself.
